Fly Fishing Funamentals For Stillwater

Fees: The fee for the clinic and private ranch fishing is $150.00 / per person / per day.

Sheridan Lake is located on the Sheridan Ranch about 19 miles off Highway 20 near Mac’s Inn and the famous Henry’s Fork in Idaho. The lake holds rainbows some reaching the 12-13 pound class and an average of 16-20 inches with cutthroats from 12-14 having been just recently planted. It’s a relatively shallow lake with lots of sight fishing possibilities. I fished it in the spring and fall of 2006 and did mostly sight fishing.

The technical side of the clinic will take place at Arrick’s Fly Shop in West Yellowstone, Montana (406-646-7290), or you can contact Denny at 541-381-2218 for sign-up or information about the clinic.

We will cover all the key aspects of stillwater fly fishing including tackle, flies, casting, retrieves, locating trout, proper areas and zones to fish, presentation and much more. There are lots of stillwater opportunities in the area including Henry’s Lake, Island Park Reservoir, Hebgen, Quake, Yellowstone Lake, not to mention the blue ribbon rivers in the area.

We will start at 8:00 am, finish around 11:00 am, break for lunch and drive on out to the lake for the afternoon bite. Price for the event is $150.00 / per person / per day, which includes the clinic and the fishing fee for private water. Pontoon or belly boats are necessary to effectively fish the lake. Rental boats with electric motors are available.
